CARLOS AIZA H. IS THE FIRM´S CHAIRMAN AND SENIOR PARTNER. 

Mr. Aiza has worked on the most innovative capital markets and corporate finance transactions in Mexican history, including the first and second-ever Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) IPOs, the first, second and third-ever Master Limited Partnership (FIBRA E) IPOs, the three largest Real Estate Investment Trust (FIBRA) IPOs and the first-ever telecom tower FIBRA IPO, the first, second and third-ever international CERPI public listings, the first-ever public listing of equity development certificates known as CKDs, the first-ever Mexican cross-border whole loan, domestic mortgage-backed and domestic auto loan securitizations, the first asset-backed commercial paper conduit, the largest-ever Debtor-in-possession financing, and many of the largest Mexican workouts in recent history.

In 2018, the Financial Times recognized Mr. Aiza as one of the “10 Most Innovative Lawyers in North America”, the first Mexican lawyer to ever be so recognized. In 2022, has was recognized as an Eminent Practitioner by Chambers and Partners and included in The Legal 500’s Hall of Fame for both Banking & Finance and Capital Markets.

Best Lawyers named Mr. Aiza “Lawyer of the Year” in Mexico for Structured Finance in 2020, 2018, 2014 and 2010, for Capital Markets in 2015 and for Banking and Finance in 2012. In 2014, Lawyer Monthly Magazine recognized him as one of the “World’s 100 Leading Capital Markets Lawyers” in its Leading Lawyer 100-Capital Markets, the only Mexican lawyer to be so recognized. In 2010, Latin Business Chronicle, published by Latin Trade Group, named Mr. Aiza one of the Top 50 Lawyers in Latin America, and LatinLawyer named him “Law Firm Leader of the Year 2010”.

Mr. Aiza obtained his law degree (JD) from the Universidad Iberoamericana School of Law in 1991, and his Masters in Law in 1993 from Georgetown University Law Center, where he is currently a member of the Latin America Alumni Board and of the CAROLA Leadership Counsel. He worked as a Foreign Associate in the International Banking Group of Coudert Brothers in  New York City in 1993 and 1994, joined the firm in 1995 and became partner in 1998. His native language is Spanish and he is fluent in English.
