DIEGO BARRERA PIECK IS A COUNSEL AT THE MEXICO CITY OFFICE OF CREEL, GARCÍA-CUÉLLAR, AIZA Y ENRÍQUEZ, WHERE HE SPECIALIZES IN MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS, PRIVATE EQUITY, INFRASTRUCTURE, AS WELL AS IN CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL LAW.
Mr. Barrera specializes in national and transnational operations in which he continuously advises national clients in the industries of infrastructure and energy, consumer goods, healthcare and pharmaceutical, as well as in venture capital, among others. The most representative clients and operations in which Mr. Barrera has participated include advising Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Ontario Teachers Pension Plan in their acquisition of a certain share in Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo en America Latina, S.A.B. de C.V. through an initial public offering in the Mexican Stock Exchange, S.A.B. de C.V, as well as in its acquisition of certain share in the road projects “Arco Norte” and “Pacífico Sur”, advising BlackRock in several acquisition transactions that include social infrastructure assets (penitentiary centers and hospitals), advising Riverstone in a joint venture for the development of naval and electric power generation projects, advising Thermion Energy in its acquisition of the electric power generation project “Montecristo”, advising Goldman Sachs in its joint venture with GBM in regards to the “Tres Mesas” power generation project, advising L Catterton in its acquisition of “Cholula”, advising Diageo in its acquisition of Don Julio, advising Glisco Partners in its investment on “Grupo Hunan”, “Mármoles Arca” and Mezcal de Amor”, as well as in the capital raising of Luuna and Urbvan, among others.
Mr. Barrera obtained his law degree (JD) from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City in 2008. In addition, he obtained an specialization in Commercial Law from Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City in 2009. Mr. Barrera obtained his Masters in Economic and Energy Policy Management (MPA) from Columbia University in 2012 and his Masters in Law (LL.M.) degree from Fordham University, in New York in 2013.
Mr. Barrera worked as an international attorney in the New York City office of Sullivan and Cromwell, LLP from 2013 to 2014. Mr. Barrera is admitted to practice law in Mexico and New York.
His first language is Spanish and he is fluent in English.
