TaxHis practice encompasses corporate and international tax with an emphasis in mergers and acquisitions, financings and capital markets.
Mr. Brandt regularly advises private equity funds, venture capital funds, multinational enterprises and emerging technology companies in cross-border M&A transactions, cross-border financings and capital markets transactions. In addition, Mr. Brandt regularly advises Mexican companies in connection to cross-border transactions and their outbound investments. Recently, Mr. Brandt advised Apollo Global Management as lender to a $1B USD DIP loan to Grupo Aeroméxico S.A.B. de C.V., («AMX») in the context of its Chapter 11 proceedings in the US. Further, Mr. Brandt advised Abertis Infraestructuras and GIC Private Limited in its $2.3B USD acquisition of more than 72% of Red de Carreteras de Occidente, S.A.B. de C.V. Additionally, Mr. Brandt advised Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in their acquisition of Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo en America Latina, S.A.B. de C.V. through an initial public offering in the Mexican Stock Exchange, as well as the formation of a FIBRA-E (MLP equivalent) to acquire certain toll road assets. Further, Mr. Brandt advised Cadillac Fairview (Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan) in the formation of its FIBRA (REIT equivalent) with Grupo Sordo Madaleno.
Mr. Brandt joined Creel, García-Cuéllar, Aiza y Enríquez, S.C. in 2016 and was promoted to partner in 2022. Previously, Mr. Brandt worked in the New York office of an important global firm and focused his practice providing US international tax advice to private equity funds and banking institutions doing outbound and inbound investments in the US.
Currently, Mr. Brandt participates as a global reporter for Tax Notes International. Further, he is the author of several publications specialized in international taxation, having most recently co-authored alongside other notable practitioners the book “Thinker, Teacher, Traveler: Reimaginig International Tax” published by IBFD in honor of H. David Rosenbloom. In 2022, Mr. Brandt was recognized by Euromoney Legal Group as a Rising Star in the Americas. Mr. Brandt has been recognized by several publications including the Legal 500, IFLR and ITR World Tax. Further, Mr. Brandt currently forms a part of the practice council of the International Tax Program at New York University School of Law.
Mr. Brandt obtained his law degree (JD) from the Universidad Iberoamericana (Magna cum Laude) in 2009. Eduardo also obtained his graduate tax degree from Universidad Panamericana (Summa cum laude) in 2010. In addition, Eduardo obtained his LL.M on International Taxation from New York University School of Law in 2012. Mr. Brandt is admitted to practice in New York since 2012 and remains in good standing.
