MARÍA ANDREA LATAPIE ALDANA IS COUNSEL AT CREEL, GARCÍA-CUÉLLAR, AIZA Y ENRÍQUEZ, S.C., IN THE MEXICO CITY OFFICE, WHERE SHE SPECIALIZES IN COMPETITION LAW.

Her practice features deep specialization in investigations into potential violations of competition regulations. Andrea advises on both prevention and defense strategies in proceedings before the administrative competition authority. She also assesses clients to design and implement commercial strategies to mitigate antitrust risk.

With more than fifteen years of experience, Andrea has handled multiple investigations involving collusion and hard‑core cartel conduct (absolute monopolistic practices), abuse of dominance and exclusionary conduct (relative monopolistic practices), as well as matters involving barriers to competition and essential facilities. Her work spans highly regulated industries—financial services, energy, land, maritime and air transportation, and pharmaceuticals, among others—as well as markets with significant economic complexity, including digital, platform, and retail markets.

Andrea holds certifications in investigation and interviewing techniques relevant to competition matters from several institutions, including the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and Mexico’s National Institute of Criminal Sciences.

She earned her law degree, with special distinction, from the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in 2008. She subsequently received honors in the Master’s in Public Management at CIDE in 2012 and obtained a diploma in Public Policy from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2016, she completed a diploma in Energy Law at the Escuela Libre de Derecho and a program on Platform Markets for Competition at George Mason University.
