On December 16, 2019, the Federal Government, announced resolution number 021/2019 of the Social and Welfare Ministry (“STPS”) and the Council of Representatives of the Mexican Commission of Minimum Wages (“CONASAMI”), where they informed that, starting January 1, 2020:
a) The minimum general wage will be $123.22 (One hundred and twenty-three Mexican Pesos 22/100) per day, and;
b) The Northern cross-border minimum wage (“ZLFN”) will be $185.56 (One hundred and eighty-five Mexican Pesos 56/100) per day.
The professional minimum salaries have increased five per cent regarding ZLFN; the professional minimum salaries in the rest of the country must be increased by applying the factor known as Independent Recovery Amount (“MIR”) of $14.67 plus a five percent increase.
Please be informed that this wage increase is independent from the Unit for Measurements and Adjustments (“UMA”), which is used to determine and pay certain obligations established in the Federal legal dispositions, such as the social security obligations. The Value of UMA for 2020 will be determined by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, which is still pending to be published.
The latter resolution should be considered for salary revisions of collective bargaining agreements. However, we recommend analyzing each case on an independent basis.
